History

The Netherlands' unique 'gedoogbeleid' (tolerance policy) of 1976 separated soft drugs from hard drugs. Amsterdam's coffeeshops became world-famous destinations.

The Seed Bank, founded by Nevil Schoenmakers in 1984, revolutionized cannabis genetics. The Netherlands became the global hub for cannabis seed breeding.

Cultivation

Dutch cannabis cultivation is predominantly indoor. Dutch breeders pioneered HPS lighting, hydroponics, SOG, and SCROG methods.

Pilot programs for a legal supply chain are currently underway.

Hash Making & Processing

Dutch breeders popularized ice-water hash (bubble hash). Mila Jansen, the 'Hash Queen,' invented the Pollinator and Ice-O-Lator — devices that revolutionized hash making worldwide.

Legal Landscape

Cannabis is technically illegal but tolerated. Coffeeshops can sell up to 5 grams per person. Growing up to 5 plants at home is tolerated.
